Italy Stuns USA in World Baseball Classic — Knockout Fate Now Uncertain

The Italy vs. Team USA match on Tuesday, World Baseball Classic 2026 in Pool B changed the tournament perspective. Next, the earned runs conceded per defensive dismissal will be considered, then the batting average, and finally, if necessary, a draw will be used to decide the match. Therefore, the score of the next match between Italy and Mexico will be crucial.

Italy Dominates Early in the Match

The first inning, however, was not successful in terms of the number of runs scored by the teams, as Italy turned the table in the second inning. Nevertheless, Team USA managed to survive till the end. The first run was scored in the bottom of the sixth inning by Gunner Henderson and his home run. Pete Crow-Armstrong followed with a 3-run home run in the seventh inning to put it at 8-4. The eighth inning saw the entry of Roman Anthony as America was trying to have some sort of a comeback. Lastly, Bryce Harper got an opportunity to draw a par, however, his swing was counted as a fly ball, and Italy kept the lead.

America Now Focuses on the Second Match

This loss has not entirely destroyed hope of the United States. The team will now be waiting the result of the final match between Italy and Mexico. In case the outcome favors America, they will have a chance of being in the knockout round. It is also obvious that qualification that was virtually assured with a victory is now being at stake on the second match.
