Bam Adebayo’s 83-Point Explosion: The Historic Game by the Numbers

Every now and then, there are those evenings in the NBA that are imprinted in the history of the game. On this particular memorable night, Bam Adebayo amazed the world when he got 83 points in an excellent performance. This was achieved after being ranked second in the history of the NBA with the highest number of points made since the record of the highest number of points made was set by Wilt Chamberlain in 1962 when he made 100 points. The Miami heat went on to beat Wizards 150 to 129 courtesy of a brilliant performance by Adebayo. Today Adebayo not only made 83 points in this match but made a new record in the number of free-throw attempts and hits.

An incredible moment for coach and teammates

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was also emotional in this historic moment after the match. He claimed that this arena has witnessed several memorable moments by the team, however this time around it was a different scenario. He claimed that these situations are unplanned and are the cause of pride to all. It was also unbelievable to Adebayo since he did not expect to see his name on the list of such magnificent players as Wilt Chamberlain or Kobe Bryant. It appeared to him as a dream; when he said, Wilt, me, and then Kobe.

The stats also surprised

The statistics of Adebayo in this match were fantastic. He hit 20 out of 43 shots, 36 out of 43 free shots and 7 out of 22 three point shots. It was a statistical line that is not easily witnessed in the history of the NBA. He also cried after the match embracing his mother, Marilyn Blount. He replied that he attempted to remain calm and concentrate the whole night as he felt like doing something special. Nevertheless, he did not expect the score to be 83.

The Story of a Career’s Biggest Record

Before this game, Adebayo had only reached the highest point in his career, i.e. 41 points, and he had done so before half-time. At the quarter one mark, he had 31 points and at the half the total was 43. At the third quarter, he was already 62 points. Interestingly, he shot a lower percentage in the second half, but he was the first player to have a field-goal percentage of less than 50 and made more than 70 points.

The opposing team was also surprised

Washington Wizards coach Brian Keefe also praised Adebayo’s performance, although he questioned some of the foul calls made during the match. Things got a bit hilarious in the fourth quarter, as the Miami Heat repeatedly tried to get Adebayo to the free-throw line, while the Wizards tried to stall time by fouling other players.

Emotional Ending and Memorable Moment

Adebayo was congratulated by his teammates, coaches as well as by the opposing team after the match. And everybody desired his jersey, and yet he retained it. The ball used in the game was saved and the nets were cut into pieces and kept as a trophy. His girlfriend and WNBA star A’ja Wilson was also heavily touched by the moment.

This was not only an excellent show by Adebayo, but it was an event that will remain forever engraved in the history of the NBA. He had never had an opportunity to meet Kobe Bryant but after he exceeded his own record of 81 points he must have thought that, had Kobe been alive today, he would have been proud.
