Daryl Hannah Slams ‘Love Story,’ Says Show Exploits Tragedy

Hollywood actress Daryl Hannah has problem with the television show “Love Story” in a recent opinion piece. The show is based on the romance and premature death of late John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Kennedy family and few individuals associated with them think that the show distorts various issues and attempts to sensationalize a family tragedy even though it has wide popularity among the audience.

Daryl Hannah who was once a close acquaintance of John F. Kennedy Jr. in her work had clarified that the character bearing the same name is introduced in the program unjustly and profane. She says that it is wrong to portray real people in bad ways so that it can enhance the story.

Objections raised to the portrayal of her character

According to Hannah, the show depicts her character as being irritable, self-centered, and not behaving in a way that can be deemed right, which is all false. She opines that tension or conflict can be needed when telling a story, but it is not appropriate to use a living person as a mere narrative element.

She also explained that most of the events that were portrayed concerning her in the show are totally not true. Hannah was categorical that she never smoked cocaine or held drug-related parties. Moreover, she neither claimed to coerce anyone to get married nor to respect any personal family memorabilia.

Questions raised about the portrayal of women

Another accusation that Hannah made against the show in her article is that it was pitting women against one another. She mentioned that conflicts between ladies should not be portrayed only to create a dramatic effect and deliver the misleading message. She claimed that most of the information regarding her personality on the show is totally made up and do not amount to just being creative adaptations but rather a falsehood of her actions.

Emphasis on Private Life and Privacy

Daryl Hannah also stated that the Kennedy family has always been very careful about their private lives and has always respected that privacy. According to her, most of the stories that surface in the media and popular culture are based on speculation, rumors, and sensationalism.

She clarified that her goal is to protect her reputation so that she can focus on her work and social activities without being misrepresented.

The Show’s Creators’ Different Perspective

Meanwhile, show creator Connor Hines has previously stated that he deliberately avoided speaking directly with the Kennedy family. He believes doing so makes it easier to maintain objectivity while writing the story. He believes that interviewing each family member separately could further complicate the story due to differing memories and perspectives.
